The working title of the LP that eventually became The Beatles was A Doll’s House, and this painting by “Patrick” (John Byrne) was commissioned, then rejected, for the cover.
ugh, if it were only that easy.

Another project to add to the finished pile:
Homemade wrap.
The only effort I put into this is buying the material (ON CLEARANCE FOR $1/yd!), cutting it to the appropriate dimensions, and ironing on this easy hem stuff so the sides don’t fray. Ironically, this is Jack’s favorite, over the professionally made ring sling I bought.
Adventures in polenta
So recently I’ve decided to venture away from my strict mexican food/cajun food diet and try a few new things. I got some simple recipes for stuff with polenta, because it looks fucking nasty so naturally I wanted to try it. I made these little sandwichy things first, by frying the polenta in a few drops of olive oil and sticking some fontina cheese in the middle. I put a little sprinkle of shredded parmesan to make it look more appealing:

The second thing I tried was baking the slices with pasta sauce, a dollop of ricotta, and some more parmesan sprinklies:

While both were visually appealing, I couldn’t get over how much the polenta tasted like cornbread that had been smooshed in a plastic bag with cups of water. Wait, that… but somehow all the salt and overall tastiness was sucked out of it first. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t particularly good, either.
Needs salt.
This Is Just Great of the Day: Appearing in the latest Target circular is 6-year-old Ryan: A happy, gregarious, photogenic rising star in the world of child modeling — who happens to have Down syndrome.
Ryan has also appeared in a recent Nordstrom catalog among other clothing ads.
On the Daddyblog of a father whose child also has Down syndrome, Ryan’s mother writes:
The whole process of modeling is an extreme confidance booster for him. He received so much warmth and caring from the Nordstrom crew that he thought they were there just for him! We are honored that Ryan is making the Down syndrome community proud. He is a beautiful boy inside and out. He makes us better parents, and a better family.
the pits of hell
Currently making new deodorant, as my last batch BURNED THE SHIT OUT OF MY PITS.
Turns out I put wayyy too much baking soda in the mix; the skin was literally peeling off.
Tonight’s recipe is:
2tbsp baking soda
3tbsp corn starch
1 heaping (seriously. heaping.) tbsp of coconut oil that I softened in the microwave since coconut oil solidifies at room temperature and god knows it’s far below room temperature in here.
I’m too cheap to buy essential oils for fragrance, and any way I like smelling like nothing.

Optimism is a strategy for making a better future. Because unless you believe that the future can be better, you are unlikely to step up and take responsibility for making it so.
